Stormwater Management

The severe flooding of September 2004 caused by Hurricanes Ivan and Frances made the destructive power of excessive stormwater runoff abundantly clear to every resident of Western Pennsylvania. Extensive damage occurred to bridges and structures along many streams in all portions of the Peters Creek watershed.

Flooding is a natural process, however, land use policy and control of water flow within the watershed can have a significant effect on the severity and extent of floods. Stormwater management is one of the most important issues affecting Peters Creek, its tributaries and all living things in the watershed.
