What Indivduals Can Do

• Decrease runoff by maintaining or planting strips of natural vegetation (riparian buffers) along streams running through their properties.

• Maintain natural vegetation on steep slopes.

• Install rain barrels to capture runoff from rooftops instead of letting it enter the sewer system.

• Use fertilizers sparingly and utilize Integrated Pest Management Methods.

• Dispose of oil, antifreeze and other hazardous chemicals in a responsible manner.

• Utilize porous alternatives to areas such as driveways that are often covered by impervious surfaces.

• Volunteer to help with a stream bank restoration or riparian buffer planting project in the watershed.
